Dear Parents and Carers
END OF SPRING TERM LETTER
At the end of a busy term, as public examinations are fast approaching, we recognise as a Catholic College our Lenten preparations lead us towards the events of Holy Week which lie at the heart of our Faith and for which we aim to prepare our community appropriately.
As is our tradition, each Year group will have their own Easter Liturgy on the morning of Thursday 24th March. We are able to hold some of these liturgies in local churches as this helps to create the right atmosphere for our services. They represent our College in the local community and I know we can rely on them to give the best possible impression of our College.
The Year 7 Liturgy will be held in St Albans, the Year 8 Liturgy will be held in College in the Sports Hall, Year 9, will be held at Holy Apostles’ and Martyrs, Year 10 will be held in College in the Theatre and Year 11 Liturgy will be held in Harrison Hall. The Sixth Form Liturgy will be held in Claremount Methodist Church. We are very grateful for the support of our local churches in facilitating this.
On Thursday 24th March 2016 students will be dismissed at 1p.m. Lunch will be available in College for students who want it. Unfortunately, as I have explained previously, the College’s bus services are unable to change their regular timetable and will run at the normal times. Students unable to make alternative arrangements will be supervised by staff until 2.50pm when the buses arrive.
Please contact your child’s Year Head if you have specific enquiries about these arrangements.
This year, peculiar to the timing of Easter, we will return to College on Tuesday 29th March until Friday 1st April. These will be full College days i.e. start 8.35am and finish at 2.50pm, including on Friday 1st April. We return on Monday 18th April at 8.35am.
As you will be aware, public examination courses at GCSE and A-Level are now assessed by summative examinations at the end of the academic year and we are committed to developing our students’ ability to prepare well and succeed in this kind of testing.
This year we have split the exam weeks. In the case of Year 10, this will run over a fortnight. The Year 10 exams will be in the Sports Hall, as they will be in Year 11 next year, and this will, we believe, give them an even more realistic practice for the challenges that await.
