Year 8 Trip - Paris Christmas Markets and Euro Disney

Dear Parents and Carers,

The Modern Languages Department is pleased to be organising a trip for students to Paris, France, who are currently in year 7 and studying French.

The trip will take place from Wednesday 7th to Saturday 10th December 2016 and we hope it will be a fantastic opportunity for students to experience French culture and improve their linguistic ability.

The trip is organised by PGL and we will be staying for 3 nights in their hotel which is specifically designed for school groups. A full programme of activities has been arranged, including a trip up the Eiffel Tower, a visit to the Paris Christmas markets and a tour of Paris. We will also spend a day enjoying the Christmas festivities at Euro Disney.

The cost of the trip will be £270 per pupil.  Included in this price is:

  • Return travel from school in an executive touring coach, including channel crossings.
  • Full board accommodation.
  • A full programme of events, including admission to Euro Disney, the Eiffel Tower and an ‘Explore Paris’ afternoon
  • A PGL tour guide who will also provide evening entertainment
  • Fully comprehensive insurance (the usual restrictions apply, e.g. mobile phones)

The only additional cost will be a moderate amount of spending money and some meals (or money for meals) on the journeys.  Students will also need their own individual passport and a European Health Insurance Card.  These can be obtained either from the Post Office or on-line. The EHIC is free of charge.

This is the first time that we are running this trip and anticipate competition for places to be high. As safety and security is our highest priority, we need to be able to rely on the full cooperation of all students. Therefore, only children with a proven track record of good behaviour will be allowed to take part.

If you would like your child to take part in this exciting trip, please detach, complete and return the form below, with an initial non-refundable deposit of £100.

Payment deadlines will then be as follows:

£50 by Friday 15th July

£120 by Friday 30th September

You are welcome to make extra payments in advance of these dates, or should you wish to set up a regular payment plan, that can also be organised through the school bursar.

The closing date for the receipt of the deposits is Wednesday 8th June.  Places on the trip will then be allocated in accordance with the criteria mentioned above. Any student who is not allocated a place will have their deposit returned.

As a final word, I would like to point out that this trip is an extra-curricular activity and as such it is not an essential part of any academic study.  Therefore parents should not feel obliged to send their child/ward on the trip but should only give their consent after having given careful consideration to the full financial commitment required.

Yours sincerely,

Mrs M Hoey
