Computer Science
At Key Stage 3 students study a curriculum consisting of both Computer Science and ICT.
Studying computer science gives students a real, in-depth understanding of how computer technology works. An insight into what goes in ‘behind the scenes’, including computer programming, which many pupils find fascinating.
Throughout Key Stage 3 students will have the opportunity to:
- Develop their understanding of current and emerging technologies and how they work
- Look at the use of algorithms in computer programs
- Develop computer programs to solve problems
- Evaluate the effectiveness of computer programs, coded solutions and the impact of computer technology in society
Studying ICT gives students a unique opportunity in the curriculum to solve real problems by designing information and communication systems in a wide range of contexts relating to their personal interests. Students will develop skills that can be used across the curriculum including developing imaginative ideas, innovative thinking and independence are developed.
Throughout Key Stage 3 students will have the opportunity to:
- Develop their understanding of current and emerging technologies and their social and commercial impact
- Develop their understanding of the legal, social, economic, ethical and environmental issues raised by
- ICT
- Select, use and integrate ICT tools and techniques to meet needs
- Find, select and evaluate information for its relevance, value, accuracy and plausibility
- Manipulate and process data and other information, sequence instructions, model situations and explore ideas
- Communicate data and information in a form fit for purpose and audience
