They will follow a varied curriculum which looks at diverse literary texts from writers such as Chaucer and Shakespeare, through to modern classic novels such as the popular ‘A Monster Calls’. Additionally, they will continue to improve their skills and abilities when writing for a variety of audiences and purposes, focusing especially on the organisation and structure of texts.

In year 7 students have the opportunity to further progress as independent readers through fortnightly shared reading lessons. They also have access to a range of reading materials in the library and are able to monitor and assess their own reading through the use of the Accelerated Reader programme.

Year 8

In Year 8 students will continue to develop their skills in reading, speaking and listening and writing. They will also study Shakespeare’s play ‘Romeo and Juliet’ and poetry which explores the theme of love in its various forms.
