Science

Science is a fascinating subject of exploration and investigation. It tries find answers to some of nature’s most complex riddles and can explain what is going on in the tiniest atom to the largest galaxy and everything in between. Science aims to explain the unexplainable, so be prepared for it to blow your mind!

“The most exciting phrase to hear in Science, the one that heralds new discoveries, is not ‘EUREKA!’ but ‘hmm…..that’s funny’” Isaac Asimov, author of I-Robot

KS3 Science

In KS3 you will be taught Science in topics that cover Biology, Chemistry and Physics. We will develop your scientific enquiry and investigative skills through fun and engaging lessons using a wide variety of teaching tools and techniques. You will build your confidence in working collaboratively to solve problems, as well as develop you independent learning skills. Learning Science is a non-stop whizz-tacular ride of discovery and problem solving. Here is what the first few years have to offer:

In Biology you will study:

  • Cells, tissues and organs of the human body
  • Human organ systems such as reproductive, respiratory, digestive etc.
  • Ecology and how organisms adapt for survival
  • Microbes and disease – how we can stay healthy and how the body defends against disease
  • How plants grow and how this can be altered in farming methods
  • Inheritance and genetics

In Chemistry you will study:

  • Chemical reactions
  • Atoms, elements, compounds and mixtures
  • How our Earth has changed over time
  • Analytical techniques
  • Environmental chemistry
  • Reactivity of elements

In Physics you will study:

  • Forces and their effects
  • The Solar system and Space
  • Energy and sustainable systems
  • Electricity
  • Waves
Heat Transfers
