At key stage five our students have an opportunity to study English Language and English Literature at advanced level; building on the strong foundation and success enjoyed by students at key stage four.  In A Level English Language students will study English in a variety of forms and contexts, as well as the concepts and methods necessary to analyse language.  Assessment of English Language is done in a number of ways, including data analysis, essay writing, investigative writing, and you own original writing.

In A Level English Literature students will study a range of literary texts including; F. Scott Fitzgerald’s ‘The Great Gatsby’, Thomas Hardy’s ‘Tess of the D’urbvilles’ and Shakespeare’s ‘Othello’.  Students will focus on character, theme and connections between the writers and their intentions.
