The extracurricular program of the music department at any school is crucial to achieving musical excellence. Here at St Mary's we pride ourselves on the breadth of opportunities that our Students have access to.
Our ensembles include:
We put on a number of concerts each year in school to showcase the talent that St Mary's students have to offer. In addition to this we work with the other performing arts subjects to put on our famous College Shows. Musicians from St Mary's are often asked to perform at a variety of events in around our local community including visits to primary and special schools, performing in Vale Park, and concerts in Liverpool and Southport. We also support the College's Catholic life by providing music for masses and assemblies.
St Mary's also encourages independent musicianship. Students from St Mary's have formed gigging bands in Liverpool's vibrant music scene, the latest success being Clever Criminals winning the 'Liverpool Rocks!' Battle of the Bands competition.
Instrumental tuition is provided by the Wirral Schools Music Service who offer Brass, Woodwind, Strings, Guitar and Bass lessons in school. These lessons are available to all students and can be organised through the music staff. We also offer keyboard tuition to students who are identified as being gifted and talented in music.
