Changes to the Minimum Self Isolation Period January 17th.

The Government has announced that from yesterday, the minimum self-isolation period for Covid-19 is being cut to five full days.

When do Pupils need to self-isolate?

  1. If pupils have any of the three main symptoms ( A high temperature, a new, continuous cough, a loss or change to your sense of smell or taste), pupils should self-isolate immediately and order a PCR test through the Government website.

  1. If they do not have symptoms but, on a routine at home LFD, test positive  pupils should self-isolate immediately- but no longer need to order a confirmatory PCR.

How long do pupils need to isolate for?

The minimum self-isolation period for pupils who test positive for Covid-19 has been cut from seven full days to five, starting from Monday 17 January.

The day pupils’ symptoms start, or the day they test positive if they do not have symptoms, counts as day zero.

Pupils may leave self-isolation and return to school, on day six if they test negative on a lateral flow on day five and day six, at least 24 hours apart, as long as they do not have a high temperature. Results of LFD tests can be reported here; Pupil LFD Reporting

If one of these tests returns positive, they must wait until receiving two consecutive days of negative tests to leave isolation, or wait the full 10 days.
