December 2019

Dear Parents and Carers

We are fast approaching the end of tern for what has proved to be a very successful start to the academic year.

Can I thank you for the support you have given in the Advent season to this year’s chosen charities.  Our chapel is burgeoning with your donations which will support the work of the local foodbanks, our chosen homelessness charity and the work of our local St Vincent de Paul group.

Our pupils have had the chance, in their Advent Assemblies, to think about the true meaning of Christmas and our Act of Kindness initiative has highlighted how it is possible to do something to lift the spirits of a fellow member of the College community by a simple act.  In the last week of term we have our annual Carol Service which is at Holy Apostles and Martyrs’ Church on St George’s Road on Wednesday 18th December starting at 7pm. Everyone is welcome to join us at what, as usual, promises to be an uplifting and poignant preparation. I hope you can find the time.

As is a long established tradition we finish term with a wonderful whole College Mass where we have one of the few chances in the year when everyone comes together for an event.  It is one of the things our Year 13 Leavers tell us they will miss and have even had some asking can they come back.  We finish after Mass.  This year pupils will be dismissed at 12 midday.

As many parents are aware from previous years the bus companies will not promise that they can change the times of the scheduled buses and so we would ask that students make their own way home on that day.  We will, however, ensure that any student who cannot make alternative arrangements is supervised in College until the normal end of the day at 2.50pm.

A reminder of a few key dates:

Tuesday 7th January 2020 – All pupils return at 8.30am for 8.35am start

Friday 17th January 2020 – Year 10 and 11 Review Day

The Year 10 and 11 Review Day is to be held on Friday 17th January and the College will be closed on that day for students from other year groups with work being set in English and maths.

Thursday 23rd January – Year 7 Parents’ Evening 4pm – 6.30pm

Thursday 30th January – Year 12 & 13 Parents’ Evening 4pm – 6.30pm

Can I finish by thanking you for all your help and support in 2020 and wish you a happy and holy Christmas with your children, family and friends and every blessing on you all in 2020.

Yours faithfully

Mr A Boyle
