Earlier today, sixth form students at St Mary’s Catholic College, Wallasey, returned to the school to collect their A-level and BTEC results.
Bursting with enthusiasm, students entered the school, ready to receive their grades and prepare to embark on a new journey. For many students, A-level and BTEC results are a huge milestone in their education journey.
Students opted to pursue a range of pathways, including apprenticeships, university degrees, employment and further education college courses.
Many of the students at St Mary’s will be heading to university in the autumn and have received offers from several esteemed institutes across the UK, including Northampton University, and student Jordan Horncastle will be attending Bournemouth University in southern England to study BioMedical Science. Many students choose to remain close to home and will be attending local universities such as the University of Liverpool and Liverpool John Moore’s University.
Those students starting apprenticeships will join the workforces of well-established employers throughout the area and beyond.
Of the courses chosen for further study, there is a mix of academic and creative choices.
Courses include psychology, mental health nursing, songwriting and music production, criminology and sociology, business management, history, English literature, physics, biology, science education with QTS, accounting and finance and game development.
In addition, several students are in the application phase to join the Armed Forces.
Year 13 student, Mathew Doyle, achieved fantastic Level 3 results in English Combined – A*, Psychology – A, and Business Studies – distinction*. Mathew will attend Edge Hill
in September to study English Literature.
Milly Davison achieved distinction* and distinction in health and social care, and a distinction in media studies. Millie will join Liverpool John Moores University, where she will begin her undergraduate degree in mental health & nursing.
Another student, Natalie Eeles, will study Egyptology and archaeology at the University of Liverpool. Joining Natalie at the University of Liverpool are Sean Feeley, head boy, and Harvey Roland who are both studying physics after achieving an A and B grade in the subject at A-level.
Other exciting courses to note are Gemma Parker, who will attend the University of Chester to study learning disability nursing. Leon Croker who will study games development, and Parsa Dadgar who will begin their studies to become a dental nurse. Mia Rimmer and Ella Twydale are both training to become teachers at Liverpool Hope University and the University of Chester.
The very talented Mathew Butterworth, Shrek from the college’s recent performance, will study musical theatre at the Liverpool Media Academy.
The college was delighted to see so many students securing places at their chosen university.
Deputy Headteacher, Mr Aaren Hampson, said: “It has been fantastic to see our Year 13 students opening their results this morning, and we are confident these represent fantastic attainment and progress from their sixth form career.
“Results day is always so special. After all their hard work and dedication, students enter the school for the last time before they embark on a new chapter of their lives.
“We wish each of them the best of look for their futures; I am confident they will go on to achieve great things.”
Headteacher, Mr Kevin Maddocks, added: “Level 3 results day is always a wonderful point of celebration. It was great to see the students and staff celebrating the hard work and achievements of our most senior students. Today is a culmination of seven years of hard work and a living example of our vision, which is to work together to succeed together.”
