BTEC Level 3 National Diploma in Performing Arts Dance
BTEC Dance at KS5 is taught over the two years. Students will learn to perform, choreograph and appreciate their own work, work of their peers and work of professional dance artists/companies. This course is a progression from Level 2 and reaffirms work previously taught and shows a natural progression developing the students’ knowledge and understanding of Dance in education. The course follows the Pearson BTEC syllabus looking specifically at eight units of work.
UNIT 1 - Investigating practitioners work
UNIT 3 – Group performance workshop
UNIT 4 – Performing arts in the community
UNIT 5 - Individual Performance Commission
UNIT 6 – Final live performance to an audience
UNIT 10 – Jazz dance technique
UNIT 12 – Contemporary dance technique
The Level 3 National Diploma in Performing Arts; Dance is mainly led through practical sessions, although we do insist on written portfolio’s, logs, essays and fact sheets to be submitted to translate practical work into theoretical understanding. Studying this course could lead to studying dance in further education at university or at professional performance college. Past students have gone on to study Dance at; LIPA, Roehampton University, Leeds University, Bird College of Performing Arts, Rambert, John Moores University… Our past students are now; professional dancer’s in the West End, dancers on cruise ships, teachers (private and in education), community artists and choreographers.
